Whether it is still cold outside where you live or warming up like it is here in Texas, I have a list of 28 Fun Things to Do in February with the Family. Do not let the winter get you down. After all the exciting holiday activities come to an end, we start looking forward to Spring Break vacations. Until then we put together a list of our favorite things to do, plus some unique ideas for February.

28 Fun Things to Do With the Family in February
Did you know that February is National Snack Month and the month that holds one of the best days – National Pizza Day?! This list of fun things to do as a family is filled with free or inexpensive ideas.
1. Make Slime
There are so many slime recipes online. We love trying the different variations and seeing what works. Making slime is a fun activity for all ages. Recently, I made a Facebook Live video on how to make slime inspired by the Trolls movie with my daughter where we walk you through the process.

2. Shadow Fun
February 2nd is Ground Hog’s Day! Get outside and have some fun with shadows. For older kids, let them get creative taking photos with a camera or smartphone of their own shadows. What figures or designs can they make? For younger kids, let this day be a fun lesson on weather. If the weather does not permit outdoor play, make hand shadows on a wall using a lamp. Is more winter coming?
3. Host a Game Day Party
With the Super Bowl airing on February 4th, it is the perfect time to play a watch party. Whether you are hosting guests or simply want to put something together for your family, this gives you an excuse to party. Let the family help decorate and setup for some football fun. 4. Make Homemade Soup
National Homemade Soup Day is February 4th. Enjoy a family dinner that includes homemade soup. Let the kids help cook and try my Instant Potato Soup Recipe.
5. Create a Name Photo Collage
I love this tutorial from Our Potluck Family that shows how to go exploring to find the alphabet in nature. Take photos of things you see that look like the letters in your name, then print them to frame. See the full Create a Name Photo Collage tutorial with step-by-step photos. This tutorial is perfect for all ages and gets sparks creativity.

6. Feed the Birds
February is National Bird Feeding Month. Take a day to set out a bird seed in your yard or make homemade pinecone bird feeders with the kids.
7. Handwrite a Card
February 7th is National Send a Card to a Friend Day. When was the last time you received a handwritten letter via snail mail? Christmas cards don’t count! Sit down with the family and let everyone craft a card to a friend. The kids can deliver their cards at school or teach them the meaning behind sending a card in the mail with an actual postage stamp! Get crafty and make your own cards by folding construction paper.
8. Fly a Kite
Bundle up and head outside to fly a kite. Celebrate National Fly a Kite Day on February 8th. During this winter month it is usually windy most days which makes the perfect conditions to fly a kite. The kids can pick up an inexpensive kite of their choice at Dollar Tree – they even have characters on them!
9. Host a Pizza Buffet
Our family loves making homemade pizza. Sometimes we even make pizza using biscuits for the crust! February 9th is National Pizza Day so get creative with your toppings. Setup a full pizza topping buffet and let each kid make their own. Or keep it simple and order pizza for movie night.
10. Indoor Scavenger Hunt
Our family loves going on scavenger hunts. During the winter months we take them indoors. For Christmas I send the kids on a scavenger hunt to find their main gift. Each riddle or clue leads them to the next. If your kids are older, let them make the fun and get creative by sending you on the hunt.

11. Homemade Valentines
With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, make it a family affair. Get crafty and make homemade Valentines for friends and family. If your kids have a class party let them make cards to go with candy or a small item, like an eraser. If they no longer have parties let them make Valentines for their grandparents or aunts/uncles.
12. Visit Local Library or Book Store
The local library hosts events throughout the month. From story time for youngsters to author signings, check their list of events to see what is a fit for your family. Book stores host similar type of events and usually have a reading area where you can relax with a good book before buying. Our book store even has a coffee shop inside with free wifi. We love to visit on the weekends or during school breaks.
13. Put Together a Puzzle
My kids are obsessed with puzzles and I enjoy helping them. After we put them together, we put a poster board on top to apply pressure, then flip it over so it is upside down. Then we glue it together by adding Mod Podge to the back of the puzzle so we can frame it. In Noah’s room he has Harry Potter puzzles and Gabby has Disney puzzles decorating her walls.
14. Setup a Smoothie Bar
February is National Snack Month. Without breaking your new year resolutions for healthier habits, setup a smoothie bar instead. Let the kids help by picking their favorite fruit or yogurt flavor. I have several smoothie recipes on my blog that you can try.

15. Build a Blanket Fort
Even my 11-year-old still loves building the best forts in our living room. Pull in the dining room chairs, all the comforters in the house and throw pillows. Build the best blanket fort your kids have seen. This makes for a lot of family fun, no matter the age! Make it a movie night inside the fort.
16. Movie Night
We love our weekend movie nights at home. Pop some popcorn, put in a DVD or turn on Netflix and have a movie night. February 27th is the release date for Disney Pixar Coco on Bluray. Download these free Disney Pixar Coco coloring pages for your movie night.
17. Photo Booth Fun
Do your kids love taking silly photos? Make a day of it! Setup a simple photo booth inside your living room and create your own props. We have a step-by-step tutorial on making a photo booth backdrop that is easy to do. However, you can use one wall in your house with just a curtain. Let the kids play dress-up or make silly faces. Put the camera on a tripod and snap a full family photo.

18. Build a Campfire
No matter if it is cold or hot outside, a campfire is always fun. Roast marshmallows or make s’mores in your own backyard. If you live in the country, go for big. If you live in a neighborhood with a smaller yard, create a small campfire in a fire pit. Tell stories of your first campfire experience with your own kids. If they are old enough, teach them home to build and start their own campfire.
19. Dollar Store Find
Take a trip to your local Dollar Tree and let each family member have one dollar to see what they can find. Make it a fun game to see which person can find the best item for only a buck. You can also pickup craft supplies for future activities.
20. Start a Garden
February is the perfect time to start a small garden. If you do not have a yard to plant a garden, create a smaller herb garden inside your kitchen. You can create a windowsill box garden even in an apartment.
21. NERF War
NERF wars are almost a weekly occurrence in our home. Not just the kids get to have all the fun. Grab a NERF gun and have at it. We chase one another through the entire house, hiding behind the furniture. Set some boundaries and simple rules – like no shooting at the television and keep it shoulders down!
22. Family Olympics
The winter Olympics can be inspiration for active family games. Invite your extended family members or neighbors over for a day of Home Olympics. Setup backyard games or indoor activities. Get creative on your games and tie in the winter theme by changing up traditional field day games. Instead of tossing an egg back and forth without it cracking, see which team can toss an ice cube the most before it melts.
23. Bake Off
My daughter is obsessed with the cooking competition shows on the Food Network. I must admit, the cupcake shows really suck me in, especially if it involves kids baking. I’m always impressed! Take a Saturday afternoon and host a bake-off at home. Let mom and dad compete against one another with the help of the kids. See which dessert or cupcake decorating tastes/looks the best. In the end, everyone wins a sweet treat.
24. LEGO Fun
I love old-fashioned creative play. No electronics, just sitting in the floor building together.
25. Paint a Canvas
You can pickup paint for less than a dollar a bottle and score a package of inexpensive canvases at Michael’s. Either download a free painting template for a design of your choice online or let everyone make their own picture.

26. Play the Fairytale Game
February 26th is Tell a Fairy Tale Day. You can celebrate by keeping it simple and read one of your favorite fairy tales. Or make it a little more exciting by telling your own fairytale together as a family. Let each person help add to the story by picking up where the last person left off.
For example: mom starts with ‘once upon a time there was a princess’, then dad picks up with ‘that went for a walk in the park’, and daughter continues with ‘where the birds were singing by a pond’. The fairytale continues until you reach the end and everyone has added several parts. Make the fun last by writing it down and illustrating it.
27. Dance Party
Turn on the radio and make the living room your dance floor. Pull up YouTube videos of dance lessons or just go crazy. Let each family member pick a song or genre to dance to.
28. Game Night
We love hosting game night at our home. One of our most recent family favorites is the Game of Karma card game. We also play Disney Parks Monopoly and Haunted Mansion Clue often.
