Wouldn’t it be nice to keep homework exceptionally organized this year? No more stress of wondering what homework your children have due and whether they’ll get it done or not. Check out our seven ways to keep homework organized this year.

Cubbies for Everyone

Have several children at home? Use cubbies to keep everything organized at home. When your child comes in the door they will simply put the homework they need to do into the cubby. When homework time rolls around, your child knows where to find their homework.

Dry Erase Calendar

A dry erase calendar can help keep homework organized. If your child has a big project due, you can write the important date on the calendar.

Create a Homework Time Slot

Create a homework time slot each night for when homework will be done. This gives your child a chance to pull their homework from their cubby, complete it, and then put it in their backpack for morning. Getting into the habit of putting paperwork where it belongs is an important part of keeping homework organized.

Communication Notebook

Have a small notebook handy for your child’s backpack. You can call this the “communication notebook.” Its purpose is simple, you use it when you have a question for the teacher about homework or any other question for that matter.

Organize the Backpack

A messy backpack makes it impossible to keep homework organized. Ensure that each of your children’s backpacks are organized by teaching them how to organize it. Folders are a great way to help them keep it organized. Also dividers within a binder for each subject is another easy way to organize.

Color Coordinate School Subjects with Folders

A great way to organize items is to color coordinate school subjects with folders. For example:

  • Yellow folder = math
  • Red folder = science
  • Green folder = reading

Utilize Sticky Notes for Reminders

Finally, a great way to stay organized throughout the school year is to use sticky notes for reminders. They are easy to use, cheap to buy, and a great way to remember something.
