As summer rolls on, it is time to consider the coming autumn and the start of the new school year. It is never too early to start preparing. The more you can get done, the smoother that first day back at school is likely to be. Let’s take a closer look at some top tips to help you prepare for back to school season.

Make a List of What Worked Last Year

There were no doubt moments in your routine last year where you thought that something worked really well or did not work at all. Now is the time to sit down and work all of these out. Are there any you want to bring into the new routine? You might also be able to think of new techniques or tricks which will sort out the issues you had last year.

Make sure to include your children in this planning. They may have some clever ideas and input you otherwise could have missed.

Think About the School Routes

Will you be the one taking your children to school and will they be attending a new school? Whether they are moving up a grade or you have moved to a new area, you need to make sure that you know exactly where your children are going to school.

The time you should not be working this out is on the morning of their first day back. Instead, head out in the week before and find where the schools are yourself. If you’re dive is on the longer side find ways to entertain you during your commute such as podcasts or a Spotify playlist.

Start the Holiday Wind-down Early

One of the worst things you can do is make your kids jump directly from vacation mode into school mode. They might be used to long lies in the morning or late evenings and adjusting their body clocks too rapidly might leave them cranky and unable to enjoy their first week back.

In the final few weeks, start bringing a bedtime back and arrange activities which mean that everyone needs to get up in the mornings. Subtle changes like this are perfect for slowly getting your children ready for school to kick off again. Of course, you may need to be more lenient if you have children who want to go to a big back to school party. Adjust for your family as you need.

Back to school season is a time filled with opportunities and bargains in the shops but you can’t neglect the amount of planning you need to do at the same time. Make sure you as a parent are as prepared as your children are with their backpacks and planners. If you feel prepared, you are in the best possible position to help them with anything they might need at this time.
