Halloween is an exciting time for children. It’s social, creative, and a great excuse for children to dress up and exploring being a new character. For a parent, however, it can be a busy and time-consuming event. The reason is that it not only requires parental attendance on the evening of Halloween for some neighborly spooking, but it also requires a fair amount of preparation.

The good news is this preparation doesn’t have to be a chore, it can most definitely be fun. Children love Halloween, harness their fun and excitement and it will naturally rub off on you and the creative output. To help get you pumped and the creative juices flowing we have pulled together five creative ways to incorporate strollers into your Halloween costumes. Making it easier to get children of all ages involved in the festivities.

Remember that Halloween can be an intense festivity for young children, there is a lot of sensory stimulation as well as the potential fear factor to contend with. A good idea is to celebrate Halloween in a child-friendly way. Creating or purchasing age-appropriate costumes and decorations will be important, but so will be planning your trick or treat route. A safe suggestion is to aim to head to houses who have children of a similar age to your own, as this will increase the likelihood that the same care and attention will be given to their trick or treat experience.

This stroller costume is not for the faint-hearted, but we wanted to set the standards high. At least initially. This costume must have been created by a true Star Wars fan and ideally be suitable for multi-use.

Key components would have been cardboard and paint, therefore you will want to make sure you have ample time available to allow you to add all the finishing touches that make all the difference.

Batmobile

Batman is still a superhero favorite with children of all ages. Therefore, if you have a toddler as well as a preschooler this is a stroller customer which will excite them both.

In addition, because of the dark colored paint and iconic shapes, this is an easier stroller costume to construct at home. How far you go with the costume will be totally dependent on your creative appetite.

Living Doll

Both cabbage patch kids and dolls are a popular dress-up option for younger children. The reason why is an empty cardboard box will allow you to set the scene relatively easily. Allowing the clothing or outfit to tell the story in more depth. How far you go, will depend on how comfortable your little one is with wearing a wig.

Vampire Coffin

Although this suggestion is more of the scary end of the spectrum, if done well it can depict the entertaining nature of vampires rather than signifying death.

Use of color will be important here, reds, purples and green will be good colors to use as they’re fun as well as accurate.

ET (bicycle / tricycle)

This is one of our favorite costumes. It is truly creative as well as being practical. The child not only gets to wear comfortable and appropriate clothing but they are also easy to maneuver with the use of a tricycle.

Furthermore, the ET toy is easy to get hold of and could be something children will enjoy playing with after Halloween. Longevity will be important, especially if you have a couple of children. This costume is timeless and iconic enough to be pulled out numerous times over the years.

We hope that these top five examples have inspired you enough to start thinking about Halloween. For more Halloween and costume inspiration we suggest heading to Pinterest. As well as having a wealth of examples they also have some great how-to guides to help you through the production process.
