Raising Young Athletes – Just a Kid From

This story is brought to you by SheSpeaks and Powderade

All athletes start from the same place, as “just a kid” from somewhere.  I love watching my young athletes grow and achieve their goals.  It is exciting to see them be shaped into the dedicated athletes they are today.  From the little days of t-ball to now playing on a competitive team.

Both of my boys are athletes.  One has played baseball for ten years and the other went from t-ball and karate to soccer.  My daughter has been active in JROTC for six years, completing physical training and serving as Color Guard commander after spending five years in soccer.

The one thing I have learned while watching my young athletes grow, is to encourage them to do their best and that their best and giving it their all is good enough.  Showing my support and encouragement is the best thing I can offer them.

Whether we are cheering our athletes on from the sidelines, providing them with snacks and drinks to stay hydrated, or washing their dirty uniforms and driving them to practice – being their support system is key to raising dedicated and responsible athletes we can be proud of.

There is potential in all of us.  No matter what you achieve in life, you start in the same place as everyone else:  as a kid full of potential and big dreams.  At the end of the day, we are all “just a kid” from somewhere.  POWERADE believes that with the right motivation these everyday athletes can realize their potential and one day be the athletes that they look up to. Sports have a major impact on our communities. Whether it is t-ball or the pros, every athlete in every league has a story waiting to be told.

I love that POWERADE has teamed up with Walmart for their “Just a Kid” program.  Customers can even receive a free gift!

Represent your somewhere with custom “Just a Kid” apparel that features where you’re from here. All net proceeds from the sale of “Just a Kid” apparel goes to the Boys & Girls Club of America.

When shoppers purchase two 8-packs of 20 oz POWERADE at Walmart, they’ll be able to go online, submit their receipt, and order a free custom “Just a Kid” reusable sports bottle. Go to this website to learn more.  The offer is good until April 4, 2016 or while supplies last.

What city will your custom water bottle list?  I can’t wait to order my young athletes their bottles to remind them where they came from and where their sports journey began.

Before each game we make sure our ice chest is filled to keep our young athletes hydrated.  The ION4® Advanced Electrolyte System helps replenish four electrolytes lost in sweat: sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. POWERADE is formulated with a 6% carbohydrate solution to help provide energy to working muscles, and vitamins B3, B6 and B12.

Although our favorite POWERADE flavor is the Mountain Berry Blast®, you can pick up seven different flavors from your local Walmart.

POWERADE flavors:

  • Mountain Berry Blast®
  • Fruit Punch
  • Orange
  • Grape
  • Lemon Lime

POWERADE Zero flavors:

  • Mixed Berry
  • Grape Zero

*POWERADE ZEROTM features the same hydration benefits of classic POWERADE but with ZERO calories.
